Most average Americans (men and women) are concerned about their weight. Many are constantly in a battle to lose weight and others are battling to maintain their figure/physique. Did you know that being out of balance hormonally can make it nearly impossible to win the fight against weight gain?

Your hormones regulate your body's functions and this includes your metabolic rate. Hypothyroidism is a more well known cause of decreased metabolism, but decreased Estrogen, Progesterone, and/or Testosterone can cause a decrease in lean muscle and an increase in fat.

It is imperative that hormonal therapy be combined with a solid nutrition and exercise program in order to help a person be healthy, feel energetic and look great.

There have been many studies published showing the benefits of exercise, but did you know that exercise has also been found to decrease perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms in women? Women who exercised regularly had significantly less hot flashes, night sweats and mood swings when they entered menopause. The key appeared to be exercising before menopause began, but the study did show a decrease in symptoms in women who began exercising after they already had symptoms.

The recommended program was a combination of cardiovascular conditioning at least 20 minutes each session for 3-4 times per week combined with strengthening exercises (light weight lifting/ resistance training).

Exercise has also been shown to decrease the possibility of osteoporosis, alzheimers and even cancer. So...get up and get moving!

It has been shown that to prevent accelerated aging and illness, men and women need a minimum of 7-8 hours of sleep! The average American gets 5-6 hours each night. We wonder why we're all so tired and cranky!
